John Monkman’s collaboration with Collectif Scale marked a standout moment at the crossroads of dance music and visual arts, as the London artist’s live performance was elevated by the collective's stunning light installation, Flux.
Located in Montereau-Fault-Yonne, France, a former industrial site has been transformed into a vibrant new media art centre, where the show, titled ‘Pulse’, merged the rawness of the factory's spatial essence with the innovation of modern artistic technologies.
The artist commented: “In a world dominated by large screens, Collectif Scale’s unique kinetic light pieces offer a more tangible, abstract experience that I always thought would align powerfully with my music. Once the collaboration was confirmed, it provided me with a clear goal and focus for how the music could be experienced.”
Collectif Scale, established in 2011, is a French collective of creatives based in Montereau, France. The group comprises individuals from diverse technical and artistic backgrounds, including mapping and robotics, which they incorporate into their multimedia installations. Their work explores the connections between music and visuals, nature and the future, light and architectural design, and humanity and technology. They aim to provide insight into these relationships through artistic exploration.
