Pauric Freeman to present his innovative system and talk at Amsterdam Dance Event 2024
Dublin-based creative developer and media artist Pauric Freeman has announced his upcoming performance at the Moving Arts Centre Amsterdam, a creative workspace and art platform for filmmakers and audiovisual artists, as part of Amsterdam Dance Event 2024 next month.
Known for his work in blending sound and visual perception through generative systems and audio-visual performance, Freeman’s showcase is expected to explore new possibilities within interactive art. Alongside the performance, Freeman will also be delivering a talk, where he will discuss both the artistic and technical aspects of his system, offering insights into the creative process behind his innovative work.
Freeman's journey into media technology began through music. Growing up in rural Ireland, he initially connected with art via record collecting and DJing, which led him to delve into synthesis and sound production. His later exposure to interaction design during college sparked a fascination with the relationship between sound and visuals. "I was introduced to programming through Flash and started experimenting with Arduinos and input devices," Freeman explained. His studies in abstract animation, visual music and psychoacoustics deepened this interest, leading to a practice that visualises sound in captivating, immersive ways.
After stints in New York and Melbourne, where Freeman worked on media art installations and production at prominent venues such as the National Gallery of Victoria, he returned to Dublin to focus on freelance creative development. His time working with synthesisers, Processing, and MaxMSP has allowed him to continually evolve his artistic vision.
Pauric Freeman frequently incorporates Derivative's TouchDesigner into his artistic process, leveraging its real-time visual capabilities for interactive media projects. In addition to digital tools, he also employs the Eurorack modular synthesizer format, using it to generate dynamic and evolving soundscapes. With his upcoming performance at ADE 2024, Freeman is set to further explore the intersection of sound, technology and art.
