A limited edition set of record weights styled after Mitsubishi ecstasy pills was one of last year’s more curious releases from the world of hi-fi design, introduced by H.A.N.D. HiFi.
Developed by the custom hi-fi equipment company, each weight comes in at 523 grams and is designed to apply “firm pressure on the record to the platter lessening unwanted vibration coming off the record.”
H.A.N.D. HiFi noted on Instagram that this pressure contributes to a “smoother and richer tonal balance with vast improvement in soundstage clarity.”
The company also stated that the design enhances “instrumental definition, increased dynamic range, improved bass response and substantial reduction in vinyl noise floor.”
Blurring the line between turntable accessories and iconography, H.A.N.D. HiFi’s design reads less like a piece of equipment and more like a sculptural nod to rave-era symbolism.
Branded with the slogan Make Dancefloor Magic Again (MDMA), the product was distributed via Berlin-based record shop Sound Metaphors.
The vinyl stabilisers have since sold out on Sound Metaphors’ website, though those interested can still register their interest by joining a “wantlist” ahead of a potential restock here.
