The first volume of ‘Made In The Emirates’ showcases tracks from Abri, Adiga, Amal Waqar, Boom.Diwan, Bull Funk Zoo, NOON, Noush Like Sploosh, Shilpa Ananth and WYWY

Vinyl Souk Records, the label arm of the UAE-based community Vinyl Souk, has released the first volume of a new compilation series titled ‘Made In The Emirates’.

It marks a significant moment for the UAE’s alternative music scene. Bringing together an eclectic mix of artists, the compilation features contributions from Abri, Adiga, Amal Waqar, Boom.Diwan, Bull Funk Zoo, NOON, Noush Like Sploosh, Shilpa Ananth and WYWY. These musicians collectively present a sonic journey that captures the diversity within the UAE’s evolving cultural landscape. From traditional influences to genre-defying sounds, the compilation reflects the region’s rich and dynamic creative identity.

The artwork accompanying the release, designed by UAE-based artist Khalid Mezaina, adds a distinct visual narrative to the compilation. Mezaina’s intricate and thoughtful design reflects the cultural depth of the album, seamlessly tying the auditory experience to a visually compelling context.

The artwork for the front cover features a beautifully stylised representation of an Emirati doorway, encapsulating both the cultural essence and everyday life of the region. The design combines a delicate mix of earthy tones and muted pastel colours, evoking a sense of nostalgia and warmth. The intricate patterns on the wrought-iron gate symbolise tradition, while the inclusion of modern elements next to it reflects the blending of heritage and contemporary life.

On the other hand, the artwork for the back cover continues Khalid Mezaina's hand-drawn aesthetic, celebrating the vibrant yet everyday charm of life in the UAE. It features a row of stylised storefronts, including a grocery, cafeteria and fashion trading shop, each rendered in a playful and nostalgic way. The colour palette is soft and muted, echoing the warmth of the region while maintaining a contemporary, approachable feel.
