Hu-Sane, Astrolayb and m3UNTITLED are exploring collective memory through music
Daytimers, the esteemed collective known for championing the sounds, stories and voices of South Asian creative communities, and Brighter Sound, a collective fostering creativity and career progression for young talent, emerging artists and music professionals on the rise, have announced the selection of three talented artists for their "Here to Remember" commission. This initiative celebrates the rich heritage and diverse cultural tapestry of South Asian and South Asian mixed heritage artists.
DJ Hu-Sane is renowned for crafting a "multi-genre ball of chaos," intricately woven with the sounds of Southern Asia, creating a dynamic and unpredictable auditory experience.
Astrolayb, a producer and electronic musician, brings a unique touch with his breaks-heavy, sample-based electronica, blending rhythmic complexity with evocative soundscapes.
m3UNTITLED, a DIY audiovisual artist and DJ, is celebrated for his glitchy nostalgias and dark, heavy bass sounds, offering a profound auditory journey through layers of distorted memories and bass-driven narratives.
This summer and early autumn, these three artists are embarking on a creative journey, producing new music that delves into their heritage and the intricate relationship with archives and memory. Their process will be enriched by guest workshops, in-depth archival research at the Ahmed Iqbal Ullah RACE Centre, and an inspiring visit to the Beacon Valley.
Stay tuned for the premiere of their innovative works, which promise to offer a compelling exploration of cultural identity and collective memory. The artists will showcase their work in Manchester during a live event curated by Daytimers in October.
