The Detroit artist also released a namesake book, a retrospective of Third Earth Visual Arts and his illustrious career
Abdul Qadim Haqq, a revered figure in the techno art scene, has unveiled a unique compilation album that showcases the tracks which have significantly inspired his career as a visual artist. This album coincides with the release of his retrospective book, "33 Years of Techno Art and Afrofuturism," which explores the rich history and evolution of Third Earth Visual Arts, the studio he founded in 1989.
The compilation, described by Haqq as a celebration of his over three-decade-long journey, features tracks from notable musicians he has collaborated with throughout his career. "This project features incredible tracks from some of the excellent musicians I've had the pleasure of meeting and working with throughout my career," Haqq writes. "Each song is a testament to the talent and passion that has inspired me in my 33-year career as a techno visual artist."
Haqq, also known as The Ancient, has been a pivotal figure in the Detroit techno community, providing iconic visual art for major artists and labels such as Derrick May, Juan Atkins, Underground Resistance, and Carl Craig. His work is characterized by its futuristic concepts and strong influences from his childhood passion for science fiction and Japanese animation.
The book "33 Years of Techno Art and Afrofuturism" delves into Haqq's extensive career, from his early days in Detroit to his latest projects with Third Earth Visual Arts. It features over 100 pages of art, including his collaborations with legendary figures in the techno scene, and provides a comprehensive record of his contributions to the visual and cultural fabric of electronic music.
